Google Wave was once one of Google’s hottest projects, promising a new way of communication that might even replace email. Alas, it was not to be, and Google
href="http://mashable.com/2010/08/04/rip-google-wave/">shut it down soon after public launch due to lack of user adoption – but not completely.
Wave still draws interest from users, although it turned out to be more of a niche product than a massively disruptive tool. Recently, Google promised to keep Wave alive at least until the
href="http://mashable.com/2010/08/31/google-wave-is-not-dead-yet/">end of the year and to open source some parts of it.
Now, Google has finally decided
href="http://googlewavedev.blogspot.com/2010/09/wave-open-source-next-steps-wave-in-box.html" target="_blank">what to do with Wave. According to a recent blog post, Google will release most of the Wave code in the form of an (almost) complete application, which Google calls “Wave in a Box.”
For exact deatils on what this bundle will include

Yes, Wave was a failure in Google’s hands, but we’ll sure that developers will find a way to instill new life into the project. Who knows, maybe soon we’ll see a better Wave, and maybe this new version will (finally) conquer the hearts of users.

I always thought Wave was too complicated for mass usage (but I wont really say 'I told you so'). Anyways, 'Wave in a box' would be really nice and appreciated by coders like me.
I think Google's biggest failure with Wave was in the marketing. Just kind of threw it out there, let people figure it out as they would. Was never very vocal on exactly what it was, or how it could be used.
is the department that proofs these articles already on holiday?! WOW at the grammatical errors! this is NOT a personal attack. it is just an observation. thanks!
I would disagree. Many of the features of Wave (such as real time collaborative editing) are being rolled out into Google Docs and other Google products. Many innovative tools are ahead of their time, such was the case with Wave. The individual components, however, will be very useful when added to already popular products. Google Wave was a great R&D experiment. Google will get their money out of it eventually.

i have / had heart for wave. maybe it was before its time, maybe the market just wasn't the right time for wave, but i see great things coming out of this.
A sort of comeback is unlikely since Wave comes from a family of a already dying methodology. A more comprehensive technology is needed
I always thought Google would use Wave as an underlying technology for other products. Guess not.
I wonder what E. Schmidt had to do with this. Ever since the Verizon announcement I don't trust him.
This makes me happy! Wave still is one of my indispensable collaboration tools.

Well we all know Google gets what Google wants.
